What are the AT&T fiber speeds?

We all want the best internet connection for our homes or office. However, sometimes getting a plan from an ISP may be hard if you do not know what it stands for.

What are the different AT&T fiber plans? And what are the upload and download speeds per plan? This information is available on their website but can be hard to find. The table below summarizes this data in one place so that we don’t have to search through multiple pages of confusing information about each plan.

The table also shows how much speed you get with each AT&T Fiber Plan along with its cost and contract length (if any).

AT&T Fiber planDownload speedsUpload speedsPriceContract length
AT&T FIBER—INTERNET 300300Mbps300Mbps$35 /mo12 months
AT&T FIBER—INTERNET 500500Mbps500Mbps$45 /mo.12 months
AT&T FIBER—INTERNET 10001000Mbps1000Mbps$60 /mo.12 months

It is important to note that the AT&T 300 Fiber can support up to 10 devices simultaneously. This means that your home will be covered with high-speed internet. In addition, as well explained, you will get over 10 times more bandwidth as compared to cable connections.

Finally, fiber internet is more reliable and faster. As shown in the table, the download and upload speeds for the fiber connections are almost similar as compared to DSL and cable where download speeds are higher. This makes it excellent for online gaming.

Which are the best routers for AT&T fiber?

With 8-stream Wi-Fi, Netgear’s Nighthawk AX8 router is perfect for those looking to create a secure home network. The RAX80 offers everything from Dynamic QoS which can prioritize traffic and make the most of your bandwidth.

This is done while blocking devices that would otherwise be accessing harmful or unwanted material on their own terms with restricted access schedules set via either web portal or mobile device; all this plus an easy installation process makes it clear why so many choose Netgear routers over competitors’ products!

With more than 2 Gbps worth of capacity in each external antenna port as well as extensive usage analytics available through monitoring tools within configurable dashboard widgets

Comparison with other AX routers

Netgear’s Nighthawk AX8 router offers a wide range of features to provide you with an advanced and secure network. The RAX80 has some notable features compared to the Asus RT-AX88U such as extra gaming QoS settings but lacks one of its key benefits. Gamer preferences in quality over quantity are difficult without these options, making it less appealing if your needs don’t line up well with this device’s strengths or you’re looking for something more gamer specific like Asus’ recent release–the RTZ AX2009 ($300).

Prices range similarly between both so they should be considered based on their similarities alone. However, upon closer inspection, there is still an important difference: while having higher refresh rates than 144Hz+.

The overall color gamut on display here seems lackluster at best and downright disappointing when measured against competing products available today.

Finally, when compared to Asus RT-AX88U, Netgear RAX80 lacks some of the advanced antimalware tools. However, it has excellent performance, range, speed, and shape.

Performance on real life testing

The Netgear RAX80 deployed in our lab, which is a capable platform for testing and evaluating WiFi performance. After initial setup, I ran the computer’s test suite to measure its maximum potential bandwidth on the 5GHz band using Intel wireless chipsets that support 160MHz channel widths — including those equipped with newer ones like Wireless AC-9260 (which offers twice as much coverage than older models).

I always make sure my network card has up-to-date drivers before benchmarks so results are accurate & reliable. Netgear RAX80 is one of the fastest routers on record with a speed that can reach 1080Mbps in close proximity (same room), which makes it plenty fast for all four queues to work together seamlessly. The speeds were 33% faster than most AC routers such as Asus Rapture GT-AC5300 and 35% improved over TP-Link Archer C5400X. However, the 5GHz performance was slower than the speeds we got on testing Asus RT-AX88U.

On 2.4GHz performance, the router was slower than all the tested devices. Asus Rapture GT-AC5300 had the best 2.4GHz speeds at close proximity or even 33 feet away.

Choosing the best router for At&T fiber

Getting the best router for At&T fiber is a straightforward process when well guided. The following key points will make the process of your selection effective. The following guide will enable you to know how to choose and use your own router with AT&T fiber.

Compatibility

One of the things that need a close eye on is compatibility. The best router should be compatible with at least most ISPs.

It is mandatory to have it working with At&T fiber.

This is because in case you change your location and find yourself in a place where the AT&T fiber internet is poor or non-existent, you may need to use another ISP on your router. All the reviewed devices are compatible with most of the ISPs.

Dual-band or tri-band router

For fiber internet, because of the reliability and speed, you should always get a dual-band or tri-band router. This will ensure you enjoy the benefit of fast speeds and wide coverage.

A dual-band router has one 2.4GHz frequency band and one 5GHz frequency band. A triband router has two 5GHz frequency bands and one 2.4GHz frequency band.

The 2.4GHz band has a longer range than 5GHz but generally has a lower WiFi speed. It is more compatible with older devices as compared to the 5GHz frequency.

On the other hand, the 5GHz band has faster WiFi speeds, less interference, but a shorter range.

Gigabit LAN ports

AS discussed in the article, fiber internet gives you reliability and faster speeds. It is recommended for gaming and streaming.

However, we all know that Ethernet connections are better for gaming or streaming. This is because there is less interference, fewer devices using the connection, and is not affected by obstacles.

Thus, wired connections give you faster internet speeds as compared to WiFi connections.

Therefore, as you choose the AT&T fiber router, you need to get one with a number of gigabit Ethernet ports.

USB ports

USB ports are essential for connecting a variety of devices, including flash drives or external hard disks to store data files on them and printers that can be used with this type of connectivity as well.

Make sure there’s at least one in your new router! It should also have an open slot suitable enough so you can use any standard cable (I’m looking at YOU micro-USB).

You will find a USB-Type C port for connecting mobile devices bundled with more powerful and newer routers such as the TP-Link Archer AC4000.

Price

The routers come at different prices. You should therefore go for one that has good quality and is affordable but not cheap. This is because routers are long-lasting devices.

Picking a low-quality router means that you will be stuck with the device for a long time. It is therefore our recommendation that you pick a router that will serve you now and into the future.

The coverage

A good router should be able to cover your whole home with the internet. Otherwise, you will be searching for a Wi-Fi extender very soon.

A good router will enable that there are no dead spots in your home.

All the reviewed routers above have a wide coverage but the range is different. You should consider getting a router that will serve your home well.

Number of devices supported

Our homes are becoming smarter by the day. So many of the home devices are now smart. Therefore, you need a router that can serve all your home devices with high-speed internet.

All the routers described above from our tests can serve most homes comfortably. For the best multiple devices connections, the router should have QoS.

However, it is great if you consider the number of devices in your home before choosing the router that will fit your home.

This is because there are some excellent routers for multiple devices available in the list and among other devices.

RAM and Processor speed

Moreover, you need to consider the hardware specifications including the RAM, and Processor of your router. Thus, you need to check if the processor is a single, dual, or quad-core processor.

For the best results, never get a single-core router.

In terms of your RAM, you should strive for a RAM of 256MB or better. However, ensure that the router does not have a RAM of less than 128MB.

Advanced Security Features

Many routers provide useful advanced features that can protect your Wi-Fi network from malware and outside attacks, such as VPN servers to help prevent unauthorized access.

For powerful security functions like the ability of strong hardware or loads, RAM is essential in running these extra protections without slowing down regular internet speeds for other devices on your home’s broadband connection.

Some of these networks provide important features like VPN servers that can protect your Wi-Fi network from malware and outside attacks.

However, if you don’t have a high-end device such as strong hardware with plenty of RAM then this might not work well in practice. Look at what kind of resources each router has before making your decision – do they need more power than what your router offers?

Special features

There are additional features that your router must-have. Advanced technologies such as beamforming technology, MU-MIMO dynamic QoS, and many others should correctly work with the router.

How to use your own router with AT&T fiber

3. Login into the gateway/ AT&T router

Using the login details that you have found above, you next need to login into the gateway. This is done on a browser in a computer connected to the internet.

To login into your gateway, you will need to input the IP address for your fiber connection which on most occasions is 192.168.1.254.

After this, you will use the username and password to log in and proceed to the next step.

4. Release the gateway from your connection

Once you have logged in to the gateway graphical user interface, you will need to locate the settings. At the settings, you will press LAN then DHCP.

At this tab, change the range to 172.16.0.0 followed by “save”.

Once you have saved the new range, the gateway is released and you are ready to set up the new router.

5. Plug in the new router

Since you have released the gateway, the internet will definitely turn off. You can now unplug the gateway and plug in the new router.

To plug it in, you need to connect it to the power source and the AT&T device.

Once you are powered on, connect the new router to a computer using an Ethernet cable. This is because there is no internet at this time.

6. Access the Gateway and new router settings

After your router is powered on, go back to the settings on your gateway and then look for the firewall.

There you will need to go to Applications, then Pinholes, and finally, DMZ.

After this is done, you will be able to see the new router and the connected computer on the screen. You will therefore need to select the new router and click on the option “Allow all applications (DMZ plus mode)”.

7. Plug In The Router

Once you can see and change the settings to allow the new router in the connection. You will need to plug in the new router back into the computer and access the configuration page.

To access the configuration page, you will use the IP address that is provided on the router or use the common default IP address “192.168.1.1”.

Please double-check the IP address on the router information that is either printed at the back of the router or on the installation manual. If you can’t find it, you can search the default IP address for your model on the manufacturer’s page.

8. Check if the router is configured correctly

Once you are logged into the configuration page of your new router, check the public IP address that is displayed there.

If this address has “172.16”, then be sure that the process was not done well. Just trace back on the steps and find out if there is any step you may have missed or skipped.

9. Disable the AT&T provided Router

If everything works well, then it is time to disable the AT&T gateway or router. This is important since you do not need to have 2 routers interfering with each other and messing with the connection settings.

Therefore, you will need to go back to the gateway settings. Once in the settings, navigate to LAN then Wi-Fi.

On this scroll, until you locate the gateway’s Wi-Fi interface. On this part, ensure that you change it to “disabled” for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

Best modem for AT&T fiber: Can I use my own modem with AT&T fiber?

The AT&T fiber comes with the rental gateway (BGW320 gateway) where the company charges $10 for the modem on the Gigapower package. It is almost impossible to replace the rental gateway since it offers compatibility with the AT&T ONT Ethernet connection. AT&T currently does not permit the use of third-party modems alone.

However, you can use your own AT&T router behind the rental AT&T gigapower modem router.

As discussed above, you can use your own router when you set the gateway in passthrough mode. This allows you to use your own router thus determining the specifications and features you require.

It is important to note that the law prohibits AT&T from charging rental fees for third-party modem router combos when used.
